Program Description

Event Details

Des Moines’ oldest neighborhood, Sherman Hill, was named a historic district in 1979. Original residents, Hoyt Sherman and James Savery were contemporaries of the Jordan family, and the area is home to amazing architecture and a story of the journey from blight to beauty. Jack Porter will share stories and pictures documenting the before and after stories for this unique neighborhood.

This joint library-Historical Society event is free and open to the public thanks to the support of West Des Moines Historical Society Members, EMC Insurance Foundation, the West Des Moines Library Friends Foundation and the Iowa Arts Council.

New this year- all Iowa Files programs will be live streamed on the West Des Moines Historical Society’s YouTube channel and all videos will be closed captioned.
