Fun Fact

Karl, Retired Pastor

The West Des Moines Library has empowered retirement days for me in two ways. One, I am able to read extensively in the newspaper and magazine sections. Two, I am able to borrow books to read rather than to purchase and keep in my now limited home library. An added feature is borrowing audiobooks to savor while I drive to visit family in other states.

Book Club Kits

Due to lack of storage space during renovations, we will be unable to accept new Book Club Kit requests until January 1st. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you’d like to place a request for after January 1st, please use the email contacts below to request.

For the time being, we ask that – unlike normal practice –

please *Return your book club sets in the Library’s Book Drop*.

You can put the books and bag in separately, if they don’t all fit at once. This gives us time to quarantine the items and prepare them for the next club. Thanks!

Book club titles available for lending to book discussion groups

  • We have sets of titles, mostly fiction, previously read in our adult book club, Club Read.
  • Requests must be placed at least 24 hours before your desired pick-up time. We process book club
requests M-F – if you would like to pick up on a weekend, please ensure that your request is placed
    prior to Friday.
  • Each set of books is due back 8 weeks from the time they are shipped from or leave our library.
  • The borrower is responsible for replacing any lost or damaged books and notifying our library in the event that this occurs.
  • Books that are picked up in person may be put in a West Des Moines Public Library book bag. If the bag is not returned, you will be charged a $5.00 replacement fee.
  • Each book is numbered on the spine and it is recommended that you use this number to track which book each discussion participant has borrowed. We can provide a sample sign-up sheet.
