Contest submissions are now accepted for the sixth-annual WDM Writes Poetry Contest! Submit your work between now and February 29. Winners will be invited to share their work at a live reading event at the library in April to celebrate National Poetry Month and National Library Week. See full contest rules below or download the attached flyer. 

Contest rules:

The contest is open to all ages and entries will be judged in the following brackets:

  • Grades K-3
  • Grades 4-6
  • Grades 7-8 
  • Grade 9
  • Grades 10-12
  • Adult

Entries are limited to one per person.

Entries must include the following information:

  • Name
  • Email address or phone
  • Judging bracket School & grade (for students)

Entries must be original and in English.

Entries will not be returned to authors.

Participants may drop off their entry to the West Des Moines Library in person or email it to youthservices@wdm.iowa.gov.

Entry deadline is February 29, 2020.

Winners will be announced March 23, 2020.

All winners will be invited to read their work at the WDM Community Writes poetry reading event on April 23, 2020 from 6:30-7:30PM.

Winning entries will be published on the WDM Library website.
