You've been patiently waiting, and we are excited to announce the winners of our West Des Moines Library Card Design Contest! We had over 130 submissions, and after much deliberation, we have chosen the following designs to be printed on actual, usable library cards.
Since we had so many amazing entries, we are excited to be able to display them on our front lobby display case during the month of June! Stop by to see all of the fantastic designs that we had the privilege of choosing from!
Our goal is to have these library cards available by September for National Library Card Sign-up Month.

Learn more about the inspiration behind each design and about our winning artists below!
Kids Design - Hannah
Hannah's fondness for sloths started as an assigned school project and grew into a big love! She combined her love for reading, passion for sloths, and colorful whimsy to create her library card design. Hannah shared that she completed over 20 drafts of her design until she landed on this design that she deems "perfect!" Her favorite things to do when she visits the WDM Library are reading books and playing with the puzzles, most specifically and unsurprisingly, the sloth puzzle. We love your design, Hannah, and we can't wait for our patrons to be able to get this happy sloth on their library cards!

Teen Design - Ananya
Ananya was pleasantly surprised to be selected as the winner in our Teen category. She has an immense love for reading and told us that "reading can take you to a different world" was her inspiration for her design. Her meticulous colored pencil work and choice of pastel colors really stood out to us as we were making the final decision for library cards - we knew that this card would be fun, accessible, and vibrant for our patrons to have in their wallets, on their key rings, and in their books! Thank you for your creativity, Ananya!

Adult Design - Chloe
Chloe was excited to submit her design because the West Des Moines Public Library is her home library and she loves to read. Art is not her full-time job, but she adores being able to let off some steam and create in her free time - she'd taken a break from creating for many years and is thrilled to be starting back up again. This is a great tipping off point to keep up the passion, Chloe! We loved your message about everyone being welcome here, and the colorful design really captured our hearts.
