We Have Liftoff! Vega Discover is LIVE!

We are excited to announce that our new library systems, Polaris and Vega Discover, have officially launched! As you explore our catalog, it will have a new, modern look and feel. Vega Discover replaces the old Encore catalog and we're excited to have you get acquainted with the new product!

When you stop into the library today, you'll notice that we're having a party to celebrate. We're asking everyone to go on a small scavenger hunt through Vega Discover to get your account set up and, once you complete it, you'll get your choice of an astronaut eraser, bracelet, or sticker! You'll also notice our staff wearing "Astronauts in Training" pins. We are learning these new systems right along with you, so we appreciate your patience as we navigate this uncharted territory!

Now, onto your most-asked question. What changes have happened to my account? 

Not much changed! One item that did change was that all PIN numbers changed to the last four digits of the phone number we had on file. You can reset your PIN in Vega Discover if you would prefer not to have your last four digits as your PIN. 

Another small change for patrons who were signed up to receive text message notifications for holds pickup was that they needed to re-opt-in to receiving text messages. You should have received a text on December 12 confirming that you still wanted to receive texts from us. 

If you were a person with multiple barcodes associated with your account (meaning you had multiple library cards on file), the new system only let us transfer one over. If you had trouble accessing your accounts after we switched over, you could reach out to our Technology Coordinator at louise.alcorn@wdm.iowa.gov or call 515-222-3573. 

How did the mobile app change? 

While almost everything was a smooth transition over to our new system, our app hit a small asteroid along the way. We are working hard behind-the-scenes to get the app running again ASAP! 

Can I still view my reading history?

If you opted in to viewing your reading history in the old Encore system, it should have transferred over to Vega Discover. You can find it by hitting the "My Bookshelf" tab at the bottom of the screen when you're logged in to Vega Discover. If you haven't opted in to having your reading history available in the past, you can also opt in moving forward through "My Bookshelf" or ask a library staff member to switch it on for you.
