Mary Brooks

Mary Brooks

Mary is a retired WDMCSD Educator and Head Judge of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Her education from Drake University includes BFA (Undergraduate degree, Speech communications major with teaching certification), MSE (Master’s degree, Secondary School Administration), and MSE (Master’s degree, Curriculum and Instruction). Mary has been a resident of WDM since 1982 and has a daughter and son-in-law and two granddaughters. She enjoys reading, golfing, walking, knitting, writing and philanthropy.

Mary served the term-limit of six years on the WDM Library Friends Foundation Board (2010-2016) and missed her involvement for one year before the Mayor appointed her to the Board of Trustees in 2017. She proudly represents our public library to the community and believes that it changes lives and is the hub for civic engagement in WDM.

Mary’s favorite is the book she is currently reading! She reads voraciously and always has a lengthy list of books on her reserve list at the library. She loves reading what librarians are reading and looks forward to the weekly Book Sizzle email to guide her choices.
