Elder Care Facilities

Senior Outreach and Homebound Delivery

The West Des Moines Library has two (2) different programs for patrons who are physically unable to come into the library building.

Rotating Outreach Libraries: Materials are delivered to senior living and care facilities in the community once each month.

Homebound Delivery: Items from our regular collection are delivered to individuals in their homes by volunteers and staff.  See our Homebound Delivery page.

Rotating Outreach Libraries

The library provides a rotating collection of materials to several senior living residences in West Des Moines.  Each collection contains 75 items including:

  • large print best sellers
  • audio books
  • DVDs
  • Playaways (audiobooks) and other materials

These collections allow over 1,200 WDM residents the ability to browse for their own library materials from the comfort of their senior living community.

No library card needed.

Collections are located at the following facilities:

  • Arbor Springs
  • Bickford Cottage
  • Edgewater
  • Fairmeadows Village
  •  Fountain West
  •  Manorcare
  • Valley West Apartments
  • Wesley Acres
  • Western Village

If you work at such a facility and would like to contact us about establishing a rotating collection, please call 515-222-3404 or email library@wdm.iowa.gov.

This program is currently funded by the Friends of the WDM Library.
