Program Description

Event Details

This month, we invite you to step beyond the yellow brick road and into the extraordinary imagination of L. Frank Baum, the creator of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This adult-focused program explores the life, legacy, and literary innovation of Baum, whose fantastical world has become a cornerstone of American culture.

Together, we’ll explore Baum’s unconventional path to authorship and the inspirations behind Oz, the themes of courage, home, and self-discovery woven throughout the Oz series, and the evolution of Oz through sequels, stage productions, and film adaptations.

Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering the deeper layers of Oz for the first time, this program offers a fresh perspective on a world where imagination reigns and anything is possible.

Inner Child is the book club for grown-ups who refuse to grow up! We will indulge in the fantastical and mysterious magic of children’s books, exploring what makes them so powerful and memorable. Each month we will look at the works of an author, an illustrator or a genre of children’s literature, from picture books to children’s fantasy.

As we reflect on the books that mattered to us most, we will discover how they read differently now, and how we have experienced them with the children in our lives. Bring your memories, and bring your imagination!
