This month, to get ready for “back to school time,” we’ll learn about and celebrate the life and legacy of Beverly Cleary, one of the most beloved voices in children’s literature. From Ramona Quimby to Henry Huggins, Cleary’s characters captured the humor, struggles, and small triumphs of everyday childhood with warmth and honesty.
We’ll explore Cleary’s path from librarian to bestselling author, the timeless appeal of her characters and storytelling style and discuss our own personal reflections and memories from growing up with her books.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or revisiting her stories with fresh eyes, this program offers a heartfelt look at an author who understood what it meant to be a kid.
Inner Child is the book club for grown-ups who refuse to grow up! We will indulge in the fantastical and mysterious magic of children’s books, exploring what makes them so powerful and memorable. Each month we will look at the works of an author, an illustrator or a genre of children’s literature, from picture books to children’s fantasy.
As we reflect on the books that mattered to us most , we will discover how they read differently now, and how we have experienced them with the children in our lives. Bring your memories, and bring your imagination!
